Audio & plugin scams

Red flags

  • “FL Studio / Ableton full version” via Telegram, Discord, or cracked .exe / .dmg
  • Sample packs sold on random sites with no license text
  • “Royalty-free” claims with no link to terms of use
  • USB “studio bundles” that are rebranded free software
  • “Mastering for $5” that asks for your DAW project + payment before any contract
  • Fake “Spitfire / Native Instruments” download pages not on the vendor domain

Safer habits

  1. Download only from the vendor domain in README.md.
  2. For samples, keep a screenshot or PDF of the license per project.
  3. For AI music/voice, use ai-catalog official links only.
  4. Education discounts: complete checkout on ableton.com, avid.com, steinberg.net, adobe.com, etc. — not third-party “key resellers.”
  5. If a deal needs crypto or wire transfer only, treat it as a scam.

If you already downloaded something suspicious

  • Do not run unsigned installers; scan with your OS vendor’s guidance and delete unknown binaries.
  • Rotate passwords if you entered them on a non-official store page.
